It's only days till Christmas when Father David (Graham Skipper),
catholic shepherd of a diminishing congregation, stumbles upon who's
obviously a bum, Terry (Jeremy Gardner) sleeping in his church. Him trying
to be a good Christian offers Terry to stay a few days at his house
insdead, something Terry gladly accepts - and before you know it, Terry's
girlfriend Lexi (Taylor Gardner) has moved in with them as well. Now this
is a match made in hell from the get-go, which pretty much everyone but
Father David seems to see: Terry and Lexi couldn't care less about God or
Jesus, they're loud-mouthed, potty-mouthed, they tend to drink heavily,
listen to profane music and they do drugs. But Father David, who thinks
Lexi is the woman who has told him in a confessional that she's pregnant
and wants to have an abortion, is dead selt on leading the two back on the
righteous path. However, when he tries to encourage them to do some bible
studies, that ends in a party instead that via heavy drinking lands the
three of them in bed together. Of course, this sets Father David off
tremendously, and to make sure for something like this never to happen
again, he sets up strict rules, which also includes burning Terry and
Lexi's sex toys. However, the two of them, not so much by design but
through temparamant, find more and more ways to push Father David further,
something he lets out on his one good friend (Rigo Garay) rather than
throwing the couple out, until there's no more way that doesn't lead to
utter disaster ... Maybe this year's (and many other years',
too) darkest Christmas movie this side from all-out horror, as it's really
the anti-thesis of your typical feel-good Christmas miracle movie, and
interestingly by doing so paints things in a much more realistic manner:
Now sure, the third act is full of exaggeration, but the way there pretty
accurately describes the frequent failure of simple human communication
and interaction, the general lack of human trust and understanding, and
also our penchant for self-righteousness. And it actually describes this
in a very entertaining way, while the small ensemble fit their roles
rather perfectly, making this, unusual contender that it is, probably the
Christmas movie of the year! Starting December 6th 2022, this
film can also be streamed on the Arrow Player: https://www.arrow-player.com/
