Continuing their Journey to the West, the Monk (Ho Fan), Monkey (Chow
Lung Cheung), Pigsy (Peng Peng) & Sandy enter the Land of Many Perfumes
where only women live & give birth to only women, unless their offspring is
procreated by a man - & m,en are of course pretty scarce in a land only
inhabitated by women !
are immediately attacked by a quartzet of
amazons who want to get their hands on the monk, but who our heroes, led by the
daring & fearless Monkey fight off easily.
Upon seeing that, 2 witches who want to get their
hands on the Monk too (doesn't everybody in this series ?) decide the only way
to get him is to lure Monkey away, & in order to do that they have the
fallen Ru Yi Fairy God conquer Monkey's own realm.
The amazons haven't been idle as well, as they
transform themselves into our quartet of heroes & enter the Royal Palace of
the Land of Many Perfumes, & one of them in the guise o the Monk promises
to marry the (rather horny) Empress of the realm. The same night though,
the four amazons escape the palace, leaving an Empress longing for the Monk
behind.
& so, while Monkey has to go off to free his own
realm again, the Monk, Pigsy & Sandy are dragged off to the Palace, where
the Empress wants to prepare her marriage to the Monk - but then the Empress'
daughter falls for the Monk as well, & so soon the 2 fight over the man,
while Pigsy - who has always had a weak spot for the female form - transforms
himself into the Monk as well to add to the confusion. & to make matters
worse, the minister in the Empress' court who actually wants to hand out the
Monk & his friends permits for a safe passage through the country so
everything can turn back to normal again is thrown into jail.
Luckily though, Monkey has since defeated the Ru Yi
Fairy God but spared his life as a gesture of mercy & comes back to fix
things, first freeing his friends from the Palace, then finally defeating the
amazons.
The witches decide though to use the situation for
their own ends & kidnap the Monk unnoticed by his friends. But thank god
the Ru Yi Fairy God, owing his life to Monkey, has decided to pay back his
debts & attacks them, managing to delay them long enough for Monkey, Pigsy
& Sandy to catch up before finally having to die.
& while the witches use all their trickery to make
the Monk marry them, Monkey & Pigsy do everything to delay just that until
Sandy comes back with the Moon Chicken, the only being that can defeat the
witches - which it does in the end.
All's end that ends well ? Not quite, as the minister,
freed from her prison, leads a rebellion to the Royyal Palace, in order to -
nope, not overthrow the Empress but get permits for a safe passage through the
Land of Many Perfumes for the Monk, Monkey, Pigsy & Sandy, so - without men
to bother with - everything in the realm can return back to normal again.
This fourth & last episode in the Journey to
the West-series (the others are Monkey
goes West, Princess Iron Fan
& Cave of the
Silken Web) is again a childish but psychedelic fantasy-film
that suffers mostly from the repetitiveness that wasn't only apparent
throughout the whole series but also is so in this very film itself, as it
contains little more than variations on the same theme (woman wants monk -
woman uses seductive charms on Pigsy in order to get Monk - Monkey sets things
right), repeated at least 3 times in this movie alone, & is thus the
weakest part of the series.
