One night, Ezra (Richardson Pierre) picks up drag performer Levi (Dueal
Andrews) on a whim and takes him out to dinner, hoping to score later on.
However, when they head back to his place, they stop by a convenience
store and witness a robber (Christos Antontou) threatening and ultimately
killing the store clerk (Geneieve Martinez), and when that guy then
notices he had witnesses, he prepares to shoot them as well, but Ezra
managges to disarm the man out of good luck rather than anything else, and
shoots him dead in self defense. Now of course, the right thing to do
would be to call the police but the two figure them being black - and Ezra
a drag queen on top of that - and the robber white, they'd never believe
their version of the story, even it it is the absolute truth. So they
decide to skip town and try to make it to Mexico to hide out until things
blow over. Thing is, they have absolutely no experience when it comes to
being fugitives and on top of that are still only getting to know one
another ... Despite above probably reading like a thriller in drag,
don't go into this expecting am pveröpad pf camp and/or an action
extravaganza, as the film really plays out more like a down-to-earth drama
that just happens to feature a drag performer - and the film's all the
better for it, a rather touching story about blowwoming love on the run,
suitably subtly directed and carried by relatable performances. An
unspectacular but surprisingly compelling film, actually.
