Lek
(Aomkham Kamonrattanan), the girl who got away last
episode, returns to Marcus's (Alec Newman) place, or rather breaks
in, because she apparently wants some of his wealth, and knowing the lay
of the land (and positions of the security cameras), she figures she has a
good chance of pulling this through, and indeed manages to kill the sole
security guard of the place - but ultimately she's overcome by Marcus
himself. What follows is more a philosophical debate than anything else,
with Marcus finding out that Lek is actually the sister of a girl he
killed, Nam - see episode 1 -,
a girl who died willingly to see to it that Lek's hospital costs are paid.
Eventually, Marcus makes Lek an offer, he kills her and promises to never
kill again after that. This way, Lek would save the life of an estimated
60 girls - assuming he would kill girls for another 20 years at a rate of
three by year. Lek wills in and it looks like she walks like a lamb to
slaughter - but of course, she's street-smart enough to have one more ace
up her sleeve ... Persist in the Face of All Obstacles
is pretty much the logical conclusion of the first two episodes, when the
philosophies of the main characters, Marcus and Lek, finally collide, in a
showdown that's fought both in words and actions. And both dialogue and
action scenes are fittingly slick to be sure, resulting in a piece that at
the same time explores the story's intellectual underpinnings, but on the
other also delivers on the action and suspense level, and is a very
fitting finale to a rather unusual series.
