It was a massacre, with at all eight bodies found over some piece of
land spanning two acres, with several murder weapons and only one
survivor, Angel Adams. Of course, she was arrested and indicted as the
logical suspect, but ultimately vindicated by the court. However, many
still believe her guilty, which has led true crime podcaster Rockin Robin
(Robin Coté) investigate the case on her own. Her one main witness is
Detective Byrd (Darren Burch), who actually found the first several bodies
on the crime scene, and also the still alive Angel Adams. And she, instead
of calling the authorities, called her photographer friend (Clive
Christopher), which in his eyes makes her already guitly, and it's all
supported by circumstantial evidence. The photographer friend, whom the
court would later list as an investigative lead, however puts quite a
different spin on things, how he met her in college where she, upon
finding out he's a photographer, offered to model for him - and before
long her modelling took a decidedly racy turn. Now that's not all that
surprising as to pay for her education she worked as a prostitute - and by
all accounts she wasn't unhappy with what she did. She soon met Kimberly,
a prostitute like her, and with her she took things even further,
venturing into the adult movie scene and the like. Thing is, Angel studied
to be a teacher, and upon graduating she pretty soon found a job - while
still hustling on the side. Things took a turn toward the complicated
though when she met Jake, a fellow teacher, and the two soon fell in love
with one another. And still, she refused to give up her side job. And in a
round-about way this led to above-mentioned massacre - well, maybe at
least, as the one person to know for sure, Angel Adams, has disappeared
without a trace after the trial ... Now the story that Who
Killed Angel Adams? is telling is nothing if not engaging in all its
outrageousness, and really in its lack of actual conclusion, leaving the
viewer as much in the dark as the investigators on screen. And while in a
way the visuals of this mockumentary are not the most impressive ones -
mostly talking heads supported by generic stock footage that can be bought
on the cheap on the internet while lacking even pictures of the story's
actual protagonists -, this way of storytelling also lets the mind wander,
sparks one's own imagination, and ultimately makes for an almost
interactive experience. And Who Killed Angel Adams? is put together
cleverly enough to actually make this approach work quite beautifully,
making this a nice genre ride.
