Matt Clark, railroad detective, and his partner in crime-detecting
Frankie (Mary Castle) are after this most brutal of Western
gangsters/gunmen, Billy the Kid (Richard Jaeckel) ... and before long,
they have tracked him down to a Saloon, where Frankie starts to work
undercover as pianist. Thing is, Billy takes a liking to Frankie, and he
takes her with him for his next heist, cattlerustling.
Good thing Matt has a watchful eye over Frankie, and even better that
he meets Pat Garrett (Richard Travis) when trailing her, and eventually,
Matt and Garrett have rounded up Billy's entire gang, only Billy manages
to escape with Frankie as hostage ... but an accident puts an end to this
too, and before long, Billy is tried and convicted to be hanged - but of
course, he makes a getaway and hides out somewhere in the middle of
nowhere - but nowhere that Garrett can't find him, and eventually the two
of them have a showdown in which Garrett shoots Billy.
Considering this was just a TV-Western, this show features pretty high
production values, and quite a bit of action too - but the story of the
whole thing is just too straight and completely devoid of plottwists, so
it fails to totally convince.
