Maddy (Molly McIntyre) is a slightly wallflowerish young girl living
with her grandmother (Sally Kirkland) in a two horse town where the only
source of amusement is going to the roller skating rink - but Maddy just
isn't very good on skates, and even if she was, village beauty Jolee
(Kasia Pilewicz) just knows how to always be the center of attention.
However, when an out-of-towner passing through (James Gallo) shows
interest in her, it doesn't leave her cold, and even if the guy eventually
leaves with Jolee, Maddy dresses up for the next chance to stumble into
him again - which eventually leads to them having sex. Too bad then that
this out-of-towner is actually an extremely dangerous serialkiller who has
already slaughtered Jolee and has similar plans for Maddy ... Nice
little piece of rural horror that cleverly underplays its shocks and
instead works its way into the audience's mind via (ever-changing) mood
and build-up of suspense while really fleshing out Maddy as a character
and leaving enough mystery with the killer while making him likeable
enough to make Maddy's actions relateable. And of course, the finale
doesn't only come cleverly unexpected but does also pack a punch to make
this a pretty cool short.
