Salvatore (Kris Salvi) and Santo (Justin Thibault) have been best
friends for years, and really have been through much together - maybe too
much - working for the mob. And then Santo has just disappeared, just
because he wants out. And Salvatore has been sent to track him down and
kill him, because either Santo is a snitch, or he just knows too much. But
will Salvatore kill his oldest friend ... Now the outline of
this short might not exactly spell originality, actually it's pretty much
a standard situation from gangster cinema, done very good in some movies,
but mostly it's just treated as a device to connect the dots. What makes
this specific movie special though is that it really digs into its
characters and their emotions in relation to the very scene depicted - so
much so that the backstory is more or less ommitted, is only hinted at in
the dialogue. And a clever script, a subtle directorial effort and two
very solid leads really manage to bring the story to life, in a way that
it resounds beyond genre boundaries and make this a quite cool movie
actually.
