This is a film almost impossible to summarize without making it sound
drab. My best attempt would be "An old Aleister Crowley (Jeff
Kristian) reminisces about the times he (as a youngster played by Brandon
Edwards) with his boyfriend Herbert Pollitt (Danny Beaton) and regrets the
relationship has ended all these years ago." Now of course, this is
what the film's about, but it doesn't do the movie the first bit of
justice, as it brinds across its story in associative, abstract and at
times even surreal way, using Christian as well as occult symbolism,
motives from vintage and horror movies and even dance sequences. The
result feels at the same time like a throwback and remarkably fresh - a
throwback as in style and structure it's not at all unlike yesteryear's
art films, only emphasized by Jeff Kristian's 1970s style rock soundtrack,
and fresh because the film doesn't follow conventions but makes its own,
is full of bold visual choices and has an artfulness to it rarely seen in
today's cinema anymore. That all said, the film might not be for everybody
as it's far off the beaten track, but those looking for something
different will find it here in spades and are sure to enjoy it, too.
