Doctor Reynolds (Jon Hall) & his sidekick professor Ogden (Ray Montgomery) have come to Africa to get to the bottom of some of the tribal witchdoctor's secrets & use them to the advancement of medical science. In their first adventure, they want to undertake a trip to some taboo land where there is said to be a white goddess who has stayed young for decades ... now that's some (medical) mystery !

But as tabooland is taboo, the local native tribe refuse to take Reynolds there ... until he, thanks to his superior medical knowledge saves one of them. Thereafter he is not only equipped with enough carriers to mount the expedition but also given the honorary title of Ramar - white witch doctor.

Of course, once the expeition reaches the realm of the white goddess, all the carriers run ofgf, leaving Ramar/Reynolds, Ogden & their cockney guide Charlie (James Fairfax) to go exploring on their own ... & woldn't you know it, before long they are captured by a native tribe, & brought to their queen, the legendary White Goddess, who does - do wonders not cease ? - speak their language. However, while Ramar asks her to tell him her secret of her eternal youth & set him free, she prefers to keep our trio of heroes as prisoners ... but ultimately they get away, & even steal a few of the herbs from the local witchdoctor, & shoot a few of the natives while escaping ... & they are supposed to be the good guys ...

The very first episode of the popular series Ramar of the Jungle, one of the more entertaining jungle-series as it id occasionally include horror, science fiction or fantasy elements & often cooked up a wild mix of 50's pulp fiction. However, that's not to say Ramar of the Jungle was an especially good series, generally it did consist of shoddy interior sets posing as the jungle, with some stock jungle footage pasted in, not always too appropriate.

Eventually it does provide some good-natured nostalgic fun though.
