For years, Patrick (Jon Waters) has lived a good life, with a great
job, plenty of money, and he got to see the world. Of late though, he has
fallen on hard times and is now reduced to sleeping in his van and doing
menial jobs. He really wants to get back to his feet and buy himself a
house - but lacks the funds for a down payment. Enter his best friend
Donnie (Quinn Aikele), who's well-meaning but not the sharpest tool in the
shed, and he tries to persuade Patrick to pull a heist in the employ of
crooked businessman Jared Rossi (Aaron Hennetty). Now Patrick's no
criminal, but he's desperate enough to say yes nevertheless, and he's
clever enough to actually come up with a plan to pull the thing through -
even if he steps on a nail and hurts his foot badly in the process of
doing so. There's just one snitch, the robbed party, Tim (Anthony Hill)
took a picture of his car's license plate. So Patrick and Donnie see
themselves forced to ditch the car in the middle of nowhere, and make
their way back to town, circa 30 miles, on foot. And all that while Tim, a
mormon bishop, has sent two potentially violent mormon missionaries after
them to retrieve what's his ... A very cool buddy comedy that
might have its fair share of obvious jokes, but it never goes so far as to
insult its audience's intelligence, instead shows lots of heart and is
actually based on a clever script that's more than a mere hanger for the
film's punchlines. And leads Jon Waters and Quinn Aikele have just the
right chemistry to make this work, and they're supported by an able
ensemble, all in the joke but playing it mostly straight - and for all of
this, this one's definitely worth a watch.
