Despite being sisters, Gabby (Kristi Ray) and Ashley (Erika Edwards) couldn't be less alike - while Gabby is the private school-educated, privileged and pretty party girl, Ashley is more of a homebody from public school, obsessed with books and local history, with special focus on nuns and the macabre. So when the two girls go on a road trip together with Gabby's boyfriend Anthony (Damian Maffei) and their mutual friend Michael (Gunner Willis), there's sure to be conflict, especially when Ashley insists on stopping in the middle of nowhere to take pictures of a burnt out church, something that especially Gabby has little patience for. But them Anthony loses their car keys, which forces them to seek abode in a nearby long abandoned prison - which according to Ashley's favourite legend has once been the roaming grounds of one Sister Monday (Felissa Rose), who has in her day been the resident nun, who just handed out punishment her own way, brutally murdering the inmates she found too guilty to go on living. Now of course, once in the building, Ashley insists to go on exploring, while Gabby would rather have some alone time with Anthony ... and thus Ashley and Michael head off on their own, and soon have to find out the place might be haunted. And eventually, someone in a nun's habit starts killing our heroes one by one ...

Now true, other than a clever twist in the finale (that's actually given away beforehands in a rather ingenious way so you don't notice), A Nun's Curse doesn't exactly tread new ground - but it does what it does very well, as the film manages to create believable and relatable characters and throw them into a situation filled with dread that's beautifully built up and has tension and suspense running through throughout. And of course, an atmosphere-heavy directorial effort making the most of its moody locations doesn't hurt one bit, nor does a strong ensemble cast, with Erika Edwards deserving a special mention for giving her character that much depth. In all, a fun genre ride for sure!
