Someone called the Curator (John Potash) presents us with our
daily dose of horror:
- Special Delivery: James (Joshua Myron McKinney) earns his
living as a driver - and he's good at it, too, he's charming when he
ought to be, sympathetic and easy going. So when accidently he runs
over a girl (Becca Anne), he knows that could be the end for him as a
driver, so instead of reporting the incident to the police, he ties
her up and throws her into his trunk to deal with her later. It's
just, the girl's father (Michael Rock) is a man of power, and he loves
his girl very much ...
- Bad Deal: Stevie (Eddie Blake) takes some drugs he probably
shouldn't have had - and the results are gory indeed ...
- House Guest: Edward (Tommy Kaminski) pays a visit to his old
friend Dean (Hunter Nino) and his pregnant wife Molly (Davina Nino) -
he claims just ot hang out, but actually he has planned something
truly nefarious ...
- The Protector: After briefly making her acquaintance, a
pervert with a camera (Dillon Brown) breaks into Victoria's (Hannah
Welty) house to steal some of her underwear and maybe get some
pictures of her naked - for high.paying voyeurs all around the
internet. Thing is, she might have anticipated his moves ...
- Honey Hole: All two friends wanted was doing a bit of fishing at a
very special fishing hole deep in the woods - but instead they walk
into the sacred ground of some cult with a penchant for dismemberment
...
Now one thing up front, there's little reason for all five episodes of
this series to be shot found footage style, especially since the approach
is only worked into the narrative in one, The Protector, and
frankly, not only could all episodes have profited from a more complex
cinematic language, the amount of shaky camerawork in here does make one a
bit seasick, especially when watching all entries in one go. That out of
the way, there's still plenty of good about Midnight Feature,
all episodes are well-written and should really resonate with horror fans,
especially since they're all playing and often subverting genre mainstays,
and the thing as a whole is cast pretty well and overall a pretty
enjoyable ride.
