Mac (Joshua Jordon) isn't gay - at least he insists he isn't when
talking to his therapist (North Roberts). Well, sure he has bedroom
problems with women, and sure, he finds oiled up buff male bodies
arousing, he's way too hard way to quickly when with a man, he doesn't
mind men touching his penis, and he has had sexual encounters with random
men in public restrooms - but that doesn't make him gay, right? Of course,
it's not as if his therapist was judgmental, he even tries to reassure Mac
that being gay - or bi, if that's what he prefers - is totally acceptable
in this day and age, but Mac will have none of it, which drives the
therapist to despair. And the more Mac tries to convince his therapist how
not gay he is, the wilder it gets as it comes to the fore that Mac has
some real sexual problems - which he himself finds alright as long
as he's not gay ... While the film does make a valid point
about society - how some men would go to any length just to prove
(convince themselves?) they're not gay - Mac Isn't Gay is basically
just a hoot to watch: For one it's poingnatly written and structured in a
way that really feels like a build-up even if it's (invariably hilarious)
variations on the same joke. On top of that, both leads really fill their
roles, and by and large get the story across without going moronic, and
the direction gives them enough room to breathe, without it just becoming
a succession of talking heads. And all of this combined pretty much makes
for pure hilarity.
