Another pandemic has swept across the USA two years ago, and the
political chaos and violence that followed have made the country pretty
much uninhabitable. Fortunately though, Emily (Kerri Lee Romeo) and David
(Adam Leotta), a couple that has actually already called it quits but came
back together to get away, and Emily's best friend Diane (Nicole Alivayof)
have made it off to Mexico before the worst, and found abode in a
abandoned hacienda somewhere in rural Mexico. Sure, the pandemic has
struck here as well, but it's comparatively peaceful around here. And with
a little effort they make the place inhabitable as well, even if they lack
running water - but there's a little underground lake nearby for that.
Then though Diane catches the pandemic and dies a rather pitiful death, an
event that pretty much forces Emila and David closer together than ever
and makes them swear to one another to die together while seeking ultimate
pleasure. But for a while thereafter, things get better, the pandemic
appears to peter out - which weirdly enough makes Emily and David grow
more and more distant to one another. Until the pandemic hits once again
with full force, and David starts to show symptoms ... A piece
of science fiction that very clearly derives inspiration from the
happenings in the early 2020s, without of course ever calling any events
by name. The thing about this movie though is it doesn't try to go the
social commentary route let alone point fingers into any direction but
instead tells a very touching, very unusual and for that reason very
relatable love story, one that's carried by its intelligently crafted plot
as much as its beautiful photography and its strong central performances,
all of which make this movie a rather intense experience.
