To write her next screenplay, writer Lilly (Chelsea Newman) retreats to
her mountainside cabin, despite the fact that she might be snowed in for
weeks, some of her neighbours are weirdos on the verge of being dangerous,
and she doesn't carry a gun. But there's friendly neighbourhood thug Frank
(D.T. Carney) who keeps an eye out for her, and who chases off pesky
voyeur Teddy (Rickey Bird jr). But then he wants his reward, and she's
merely a defenseless woman, with nothing but her experience as a
screenwriter to relie on ... This short is basically a fun
exercise in genre filmmaking: While the set-up and the first few shots are
intentionally reminiscent of The Shining,
it's not long before the film veers off into a whole different direction
and manages to surprise even horror audiences with plot elements and
twists pretty much every step along the way, to create a very nicely
put-together whole, thanks to a genre savvy direction and very relatable
performances.
