She (Lauren Elyse Buckley) has already gone to bed when she hears a
knock on the door. Then another knock, this time more desparately. And
then someone tries to come in, and if it wasn't for the doorchain they
would. An old lady (Debroah O'Brien) screams through the door, calling for
Jimmy - who's definitely not in our heroine's room. Eventually, our
heroine gets so freaked out by the incessant knocking that she decides to
check who's behind the door, just to have it over with, but once she's at
the door, the knocking dies down. So everything back to normal - or has
something found its way into the room another way? The Knock
is essentially a very beautiful horror miniature, a little film that (even
for its four minute running time) is short on plot let alone subtext, but
what it does it does very well, and that's creeping the audience out,
thanks to a well thought-out situation, a very atmospheric direction that
gets the most out of its situation and location, and a strong and
believable central performance. Really cool genre entertainment for sure.
