Siblings David (Black) and Anastasia (C. Kouloukas) don't have the
exactly most normal relationship, as he enjoys being tied up and tortured,
and she's only to happy to oblige, and even takes it a notch further by
taking out one of his eyeballs and chopping off one of his fingers, and
eating both - a purely consensual act. And as long as he has his safeword,
David thinks he's in charge. But what if she gets so drunk on having power
over him that she "forgets" his safeword ...
Now this is certainly not a film for the faint-of-heart - as
films about torture and cannibalism rarely are -, but at the same time
it's not a vapid exercise in gross-out filmmaking, instead puts everything
into a narrative context revolving around a perverted form of powerplay
that in all its gruesomeness is actually well-written and well-structured
to keep the dedicated viewer at the edge of one's seat throughout. Plus
the surprise ending is only a fitting coda to everything that went on
beforehands. Of course, it helps if you're into rather explicit horror,
but then it's a fun ride for sure! ... and if this has gotten
you at all excited, Sinister Symbiosis will premiere on June 6th 2020 on
the Grim and Bloody Theater's YouTube channel for Death's Parade
Film Frest, followed by a pre-recorded Q&A:
