Grace Greene (Victoria Vertuga) wants to be a serious actress in Hollywood, and she thinks she brings everything needed to the table, from an extensive and continuing acting training to a good work ethic, and she also has an agent, Paulina (Jodie Bentley) with the right connections - but whatever she tries, nothing seems to work, as ever she did a topless scene in a horror movie, she's considered eye candy, and on top of this is punished for not being 23 anymore. And yet she tries to take what life dishes out to her in stride, be it seeing an untalented "friend" hitting it big because of half a million Instagram followers, be it her co-star from above-mentioned horror film having shot to the top of the heap because of merciless double standards while she's being ridiculed, be it not getting a role for being "too real", or be it a blind date with a fan (Thomas Hobson) ending in chaos. But what's her breaking point, and is there a cure?

Now whoever follows Hollywood news and gossip with only half an ear will probably be able to connect with at least some of the story of DisGraced - and that said, despite all the drama surrounding its central narrative, this is actually a wickedly funny social satire, picking on Hollywood's latent sexism, its double standards, addiction to beauty for beauty's sake, shiny surfaces, and blunt statistics, and its disregard to actual quality and creativity. And yet this is not some lofty showbiz fable but is ably grounded in its main character, played with relatable charm by the series' co-creator Victoria Vega, and supported by a solid ensemble. And all of this makes up for a genuinely fun watch for sure.
