Most people will agree that Arantxa Peña steals the show with her
introuctuction, where she even makes drinking a glass of milk erotic,
before launching into three short films by director Atanes, all of which
he plays a part in. What the director has done is splice three shorts into
a feature film, one of which should probably not be viewed unless drunk,
on drugs or deranged. It is a little bit Fellini, a little bit Ed Wood, a
little bit John Waters and all weird.
Metaminds & Metabodies is totally warped, where no one
viewing can be totally sure what is going on. A drunken patron, a weird
rant on mirror images and alternative universes, a load of violence and
some truly kinky shit abound in this half hour of nonsense that makes Jeff
Stoll's Weirdo or the dream
sequence in The Dunwich Horror look rational by comparison. I can
picture Cheech & Chong watching this stoned and going "Far out,
man."
Morfing: Atanes plays himself and spoofs himself in dealing with
the absurd world of indy film-making. Can it really be as bad or as crazed
as this? One wonders. Watching would make outsiders want to stay out of
Spain if desiring a career in indy cinema. Arguably the best and certainly
the most humorous of the three segments. Many indy horror people make
cameos in this.
Welcome To Spain: A young man returns to Spain to be confronted
by his dead father and plunged into a nightmare world on par with the
first segment. Some truly grotesque stuff in this that would do a guy like
John Wayers proud. I would like to expand on this plot but really
need to watch it a few more times so I can figure out what the fuck is
going on.
I am convinced Atanes is indeed a reincarnation of Dante as this work
rival's Dante's warped work about travels through hell.
