Wanted for manslaughter in the USA, Frank (John Ozuna) has found abode
in Bucharest, Romania, where he works as bouncer at a swanky nightclub -
and he's good at it, too, mostly because he's an incredible martial
artist. But even if he might be a fugitive, Frank's moral compass is still
intact, so when he sees bigshot Kane (Costas Mandylor) treat his trophy
girlfriend Silvia (Rosmary Yaneva) badly, that's not ok with him. At first
he's still kept in reins by fellow bouncer Carl (Simon Phillips), as Kane
is a criminal with his hands in arms trade and white slavery who has
friends everywhere, friends who are ready to kill for him, but eventually
Frank witnesses Kane threaten Silvia with a knife, and at that sight
something snaps, he disarms Kane, beats up his bodyguard, takes the girl,
takes Kane's car and makes a getaway. Thing is, he hasn't really thought
this through and has no plan where to get away to, he only knows he can't
let anything happen to the girl. But as mentioned, Kane is mighty
powerful, and so he puts a bounty on their heads and lets the whole city
know about it. And suddenly everybody, including Carl, so far Frank's only
friend in towl, is up in arms to get their hands on the two fugitivies ... Director
Massimiliano Cerchi has a smallo role as crooked arms dealer. Now
The Bouncer might not rate particularly high on the originality
scale, it's really the typical tale of the down-on-his-luck loser seeking
salvation by doing a good deed, and really the lead character in all comes
off as a bit clichéed - but that doesn't mean the film isn't a lot of fun
... because it really is. It's a rather awesome series of well-staged
fights and chases, the pacing is relentless, and the camerawork excellent,
making perfect use of its Bucharest locations. No masterpiece maybe, but
great action entertainment all the same.
