A certain African nation is not selling its oil to a certain oil
company (headed by Olivier Mathot) for the desired price, so that certain
oil company is sending down top mercenary Richard Benson (Richard
Harrison) to lead a team of mercenaries (Gordon Mitchell, Gino Turini,
Jean-Marie Lemaire, Michel Charrel) plus Lorna (Florence Cayrol) - a woman
(obviously) whose main function seems to be to get naked a lot - down to
blow up the country's biggest oil refinery.
Soon enough, our group of heroes runs into trouble, first with the
local military (which they kill in cold blood), then with a bunch of
bedouines who take them prisoner - all but Lorna, who becomes the
bedouines' leader's sex toy for the night (which she doesn't seem top mind
one bit). Somehow though our mercenaries free themselves and Lorna kills
her lover for the night, and they manage to make good their escape, but
then one of them, Hansen (Jean-Marie Lemaire) has to visit a doctor
because of an injury that seems to almost kill him in some scenes and not
even bother him in others. But the Doctor's clinic has been taken over by
local spies, who get all the information out of Hansen by drugging him.
Good thing the Doctor himself (Antonio Basile) wasn't home and comes to
Hansen's rescue just in time.
Finally, the mercenaries, Lorna, and the Doctor (why the Doctor ?) have
reached the refinery and place their explosives, but of course, they have
ultimately to shoot their way out of the refinery, and everybody dies but
Benson, who in the end blows up the refinery.
Back in Paris, Benson pays a visit to the oil company to collect his
reward. But the big bad boss of the company has already arranged fo0r
Benson's demise ...
Let me get one thing straight up front: As an action film, Black
Gold Dossier is a massive failure: The action scenes are really bottom
of the barrel, there are no special action setpieces to speak of, the
number of participants in the shoot-outs is very limited, and much of the
more elaborate special effects scenes (like the blowing up of the
refinery) is quite obviously (unimpressively shot) stock footage, most
probably snatched from some newsreel.
Having gotten all that off my chest, Black Gold Dossier is a
pure treasure trove for bad movie lovers like myself: Our gang of
mercenaries all behave like a group of carefree tourists on a safari
throughout the film, the dialogue is so incredibly bad it's a pure laugh
riot, the excuses to get Florence Cayrol out of her cloths are pure fun
(best scene: our heroes want to check if there are soldiers patrolling the
beach, so they send off Cayrol wearing nothing but panties to find out),
and the actors seem to care so little to put in an at least halfway decent
and convincing job it's nothing short of hilarious. Add to this the
endearingly clumsy action scenes and, well, the naked body of Florence
Cayrol (she is quite hot, actually) and you've got one perfect
party movie.
Recommended, if for all the wrong reasons.
