Having lost his family in the uprisings a few years back, Jack (Ryan Flamson) has decided to accept work at a remote weather station that has little to no contact to the outer world, and his favourite season is the holidays when even his colleagues go back to their families and he has the whole station for himself. But during one such period of time, the world as we know it goes to the dogs, is laid waste to in a nuclear war. Now fortunately inside the (underground) weather station, Jack's safe from radiation, and he has food for over 8 years and the stations computer to keep him "company" - but once the 8 years are up (and the radiation levels are at an acceptable low again) he has to leave to find food and try to master life above ground. Accompanied by Jim, whom he has put on wheels for their expedition, Jack wanders the world and sees what's become of it, having to fight his way through slavers, cannibals, pirates and the like, seeking for Salvation - which isn't merely a word, but supposed to be a place where the world's top scientists have convened to set the world alright again ...

This site's favourite Rudy Barrow plays a mysterious stranger who remains in the shadows most of the time to help Jack on his quest.

Now reading the above, you'll probably think "I've heard this before," and you're right of course, but with Apocalyptic 2077, it's not so much the story as such, which seems to be intentionally derivative, but the way it's told that makes the film special, as despite the many genre mainstays touched upon along the way, this movie is told with wit and dark humour that the film's topic might not suggest but that really befits the story, which is essentially about a loveable misfit trying to find his place in the world - which is the other point that makes Apocalyptic 2077 that special, it's not about some infallible hero kicking mutant butt but a relateable recluse who screws up more often than not but manages to keep his head above the water, with sometimes comical consequences.

So if you're at all into the end of the world, but would like to see it served with some laughs on the side, this movie's definitely for you!
