Patrick (Ryan Jamison) is a rather introverted guy, so when his more
outgoing friends Cole (Josh Tevlin), Tobey (Josh Goodman) and Jackson
(Trevor Adolf) take him to a party, he feels a bit like a fish out of
water, and then they also persuade him to make a move on Anita (Bianca
Salamis), whom he has had a (not too) secret crush for years - but that
backfires when even before he can sweettalk her she tells him she wants to
hook up with Cole. Suffice to say, he's disappointed, locks himself in a
bathroom with a vodka bottle and pretty much empties it - which of course
leaves him well pissed, that sort of pissed where you love everyone and
want to hug everyone. Eventually though, he stumbles into a bedroom and
finds Cole on top of Anita, putting on a condom. He grabs a baseball bat
and ... well, the outcome might surprise you. Basically, this
is just a film that feels very real, basically because everybody feels
like Patrick sometimes (some of course more so than others). But that's
not why the film succeeds, it actually does so by keeping it low key,
doesn't use any exaggerations, and the story doesn't feel forced - and in
this context then, the finale (that certainly no one saw coming) is all
the more believable. And besides a strong script this is achieved by a
very subtle directorial effort and very relatable performances. Definitely
worth a look.
