On a fishing trip, cub reporter Jimmy Olsen (Jack Larson) and his boss Perry White (John Hamilton) decide to spend the night in a rundown hotel run by the rather unlikeable Macy Taylor (Rhys Williams) ... and before they know it, they are haunted by a ghost (Jonathan Hale), find a secret passage to a secret basement, their lives are threatened by Macy and the ghost (who of course is no ghost at all), and their car is crashed. But they also meet wheelchair-bound Elsa (Cecil Elliott), who might be totally mad, but she's also the key to the whole mystery, since she has hidden a large sum of money somewhere in the hotel, and now Macy and his fake ghost friend want to get their hands on it ...

Elsa however shows Perry White and Jimmy where the money is, but when the two baddies catch up with them, they relieve them of the money and leave them in a secret room in the secret basement to die. But fortunately, Perry White has had the good sense to call his ace reporter Clark Kent (George Reeves) prior to most of this to inform him about his suspicions, and as Superman, Kent soon comes to the rescue, saves his friends and sees that the baddies get their just desserts.

The premise of this episode is childish of course, and it lacks reason in several spots, but the whole thing comes to life thanks to an atmospheric direction and thanks to Jack Larson and John Hamilton, who make a good comic pairing in this one.
