Superman (George Reeves) saves a dog called Corky from a well - but
unfortunately, having picked up Superman's scent, Corky now also knows who
he is in everyday life, meaning Clark Kent. Now that wouldn't be too bad
yet, the thing is though that the owner of the dog, Hank (Ben Welden), is
the leader of a crime syndicate, and he figures with his knowledge about
Superman's secret identity, he can blackmail Superman into staying out of
his affairs. Interestingly though, Hank's accomplice Louie (Billy Nelson)
is rather fond of Superman and gives Corky to the dogcatcher (Jack Daly)
before the dog can spill the beans - much to Superman's dismay though,
because he has grown fond of the dog, and thus he rescues him, even if the
animal poses a threat to him. Ultimately though, Superman can get hold of
Hank and book him on kidnapping charges - he took Supoie's pal Jimmy Olsen
(Jack Larson) captive -, before the dog can spill the beans.
The story of this episode sounds incredibly cheesy, and to be quite
honest, it is, too, but in a campy sort of way, and supporting actors Ben
Welden, Dona Drake (as Welden's wife) and Billy Nelson all deliver amusing
enough performances to make the whole thing work.
