Criminal mastermind Happy King (Peter Mamakos) has just returned from
Europe to retake his city, Metropolis, and to ensure that not even
Superman (George Reeves) stands in his way, he has brought an European
scientist (Maurice Cass) with him, who is to find a means to destroy
Superman - and the good scientist soon comes up with Kryptonite, the one
material that can weaken or even kill our hero, and he even finds a way to
artificially produce it.
Everything is set for the trap to spring on Superman, but then reporter
Lois Lane (Noel Neill) intercepts a message from Happy King intended for
Superman (or rather his human alter ego Clark Kent), and instead of him,
Lois and Jimmy Olsen (Jack Larson) walk into Happy King's trap - which
saves Superman from Kryptonite but puts Jimmy and Lois on the spot ...
Then Superman arrives to save them and is almost killed by Happy King's
Kryptonite and only saved when jimmy and Lois seal it up in a lead pipe.
And Happy King, you may ask?
He and his cronies die in a car accident leaving the scene of
Superman's intended death.
Ok episode that's carried by a few wonderfully camp performances rather
than its actual plot, and even though the ending is less than satisfying,
this one's actually pretty entertaining.
