The Daily Planet has been running an essay competition for kids, with
the winner getting a round-the-world trip with Superman (George Reeves).
Unfortunately, the winner, Anne (Judy Nugent) turns out to be a blind girl
who has entered the contest to give the prize to her single mother to
cheer her up. Thing is, mommy doesn't want the trip, and little Ann
doesn't believe in Superman anyhow - GASP! So Superman stops by, uses his
X-ray vision to find out what's wrong with the girl's optical nerve, gets
her eye surgery, takes the kid around the world and finally gets mommy
back with the father (James Brown) of their daughter - and after all that,
Ann believes in Superman, too.
Probably the worst episode of
the second season of Adventures of Superman - an extremely
unexciting human interest story that's heavy on kitsch while tension and
suspense are virtually inexistant, and it's not even good kitsch/camp
either, it's the annoying, tearjerking kind. Why you would end a season of
superhero adventures on such a lame not is beyond me.
