Your upcoming film Zombie Massacre - in a few phrases, what is it going to be about?

The title says all! We want to make an action-horror movie with a lot of monsters, fightings, explosions and stuff. Zombie Massacre is a scary movie but it also has a lot of fun!

Zombie Massacre is based on the vintage video game of the same name. How close do you remain to the game both in terms of story and aesthetics? And have you ever actually played the game before your involvement with the movie?

Well, it's time for a little clarity... Zombie Massacre is not based on that old game from Alpha Software. There is a huge misunderstanding... The movie is based on a new game developed by Benjamin Krotin's 1988Games, unreleased yet. The game will be released soon for a big game platform... so forget that Doom clone! We're talking about 100% new stuff!

Other sources of inspiration for Zombie Massacre?

We both grew up in the 80s so we love the kind of cinema of those years. Zombie Massacre is a mix of 80s' action and modern horror and zombie movies. Of course we'll try to give the movie our personal style to make something new.

Your directorial approach to your material?

We're not very seriuous guys so our directorial approach is reflected in our personality. We really love the script and we want to make a movie at a fast pace. We love the set and we love to be surrounded by people we trust. Most of our crew is composed of friends. Great professionals but friends as well! The harmony on the set is very important to make a good movie.

How did you get involved with the project in the first place?

Uwe Boll proposed the movie one year ago. We were still working on Eaters' post production and he asked us: "Do you want to make Zombie Massacre as your next movie?" We said: "Hell yeah!!" and here we are. We wrote a first draft in few weeks and Uwe and Benjamin Krotin loved it.

Zombie Massacre is going to be produced by director Uwe Boll, who has shot quite a few video game adaptations himself. How big is his influence on your project?

Uwe Boll is not only our producer, he's our mentor and he's a friend as well. Without him we wouldn't be here. Without him our debut feature wouldn't have been released so we owe him a lot. He's following Zombie Massacre project step by step, giving us suggestions and a lot of help. We don't care about all the things that people say about him... we know him and we know it's all bullshit. He will also handle the international sales. Uwe Boll is a great business man and he perfectly knows what means to make movies in the independent world!

Tara Cardinal

What can you tell us about Zombie Massacre's projected cast and crew yet?

Most of the crew will be the same of Eaters... the movie is written with the help of one of Eaters' lead actors Guglielmo Favilla. The FX crew will be headed by Carlo Diamantini and David Bracci, our FX geniuses! We'll also have some new entries as the DOP Mirco Sgarzi. We'll have an international cast; we're still making the deals but we'll have for sure acctress Tara Cardinal [Tara Cardinal interview - click here]. Tara is also an amazing stuntwoman and an incredible sword fighter. She will have a lot of fun with us!

We'll also have some big names in the cast but we can't tell you more now...

Of major concern to all zombie fans of course: What kind of zombies will you focus on (e.g. slow versus fast zombies, the voodoo vs the flesh-eating variety, ...)?

Well...this time our zombies are not classic living dead... they're mostly infected so we have a lot of freedom to create their look. Our FX crew is already working on it and you can have a preview of their work in the teaser of the movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THa3AYXUazQ). By the way in Zombie Massacre zombies are fast as hell!

... and gorehounds will want to know, how far will you go concerning blood and guts and violence?

To be honest we're discussing this point these days... too much blood and gore mean a PG 18 and it's not very good if we want to distribute the movie theatrically... but we'll have great gore FX anyway!

The $64-question of course: When and where will Zombie Massacre be out, tentatively?

We'd love to shoot the movie next summer... this way we could have the movie out in the beginning of 2013... talk about the end of the world... :)

Let's go back to your first movie together, Eaters, another zombie flick. What can you tell us about that one?

Eaters is our debut fetaure and we love it like a son but it's a small movie with a lot of imperfections. Anyway the movie is distributed worldwide by Boll World Sales and we're very proud of it. It's a good zombie story and it worth a watch.

Is the zombie film a genre especially dear to you, and your genre favourites?

Yes, totally. We love zombies! Movies as Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead are masterpieces.

How did you two meet up in the first place, and how and when did you decide to make movies together?

We met in a theatre at a horror shorts film festival! We have made a lot of stuff together before Eaters...

What can you tell us about your careers prior to Eaters, what made you go into filmmaking in the first place, and did you receive any formal education on the subject?

In the past 6 years we have made over 25 music videoclips, over 60 documentaries with filmmaker Federico Caddeo, commercials and stuff. We decided to make Eaters because we really needed to change our lives. And now we can say we took the right decision!

Any future projects you'd like to talk about?

Now we can only think about Zombie Massacre. It's a huge project and we have to focus our attention only on it! It's our first “real” movie so we can't make mistakes... but after Zombie Massacre no more zombies for a while!

Directors who inspire you?

Romero, Carpenter, Cronenberg, Rodriguez and of course Uwe Boll!

Your favourite movies?

Oh man... the list would be too long! Well... Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, First Blood, Back to the Future, Lost Boys...

... and of course, films you really deplore?

The remake of Nightmare on Elm Street! One of the worst movie ever. Well, most of the remakes made in the past 8 years are pieces of sh*t!
