Bad guy Fairchild (Carleton G.Young) figures it would be a great idea
to turn one of his men, Boulder (George Reeves), into a Superman
look-a-like via plastic surgery, and let him commit crimes dressed up as
the beloved superhero. And to make it all more believable, at first the
phony Superman is to give all his loot to charity.
Initially, the plan goes great, and in no time at all, Clark Kent
(George Reeves), the real Superman's alter ego, is half out of his mind,
and he even visits a psychiatrist (Hayden Rorke) for help - but even the
psychiatrist can't help ... until Kent receives a call about a
Superman-robbery-in-progress while at the psychiatrist.
Knowing there's an impostor in town, Superman finally dares to visit
his former friend inspector Henderson (Robert Shayne) to face and confront
his charges, but Henderson simply won't listen, until he receives a
phonecall of yet another Superman-robbery-in-progress, which of course
proves the real Superman innocent - and from here on it's no problem at
all to catch the bad buys.
Taken seriously, this episode of course doesn't make a lot of sense,
but it's fun in a campy sort of way, and George Reeves hams it up just
right as the slightly dim Superman impostor.
