Ben Jacobs (Ed Westwick) is a detective who usually brings hin the
results but isn't always too picky about his methods, and it's really more
than anything thanks to his captain (Anthony Ofoegbu) that he's still on
the force. But seeing a young woman (Sophie Rankin) executed live on TV as
part of a dark web gameshow aptly titled Russian Roulette is too
much even for the hardened cop. So he, his partner Cathy (Lola Wayne) and
cyber specialist Green (Rory Alexander) work incessantly to track down the
location of the game and also its sadistic Presenter (Andrew P. Stephen),
eventually even with the help of psychopath cyber crime convict :Larch
(Rick Vale), but their investigation leads to absolutely nowhere, other
than the show is probably produced locally. What's worse, the Presenter
take another woman captive, single mother Katia (Nataliya Stvetkova). At
this time the FBI takes over, with the same meagre results. But Jacobs
isn't ready to give up just yet. Only, the Presenter has long found out
who's after him - and now he makes it personal ... DarkGame
sure isn't a film for everybody, it's pretty relentless in its violence,
and the depiction of violence isn't always pretty. Amd the film is also a
bit of a mindfuck, going deep into its antagonist's depravity. So being
into horror rather than straight thriller cinema (like I am) really helps,
as this is one disturbing movie - and also a very well made one, as it's
not only disturbing, it also rates high on the mystery scale, has its fair
share of tension and suspense, and as disturbing as it might be, it
doesn't smother the audience in just violence but also has things
atmospheric as can be. And an able cast of course also help make this cool
entertainment - at least for genre aficionados. DarkGame will
be available to own on digital in the UK from 21st October 2024.
