Reporters Clark Kent (George Reeves), Lois Lane (Noel Neill) and Jimmy
Olsen (Jack Larson) set out to the jungle to track down a missing party of
explorers (Damian O'Flynn, Doris Singleton, Nacho Galindo) - and find them
they do, but unfortunately they are captives of a native tribe, and now
our reporters are captured as well. That would be bad enough, but even
worse is that the natives plan to sacrifice one of their captives to the
ape-beast constantly attacking them. Fortunately though, their choice
falls upon Clark Kent, and when he is about to be taken apart by the ape
beast, he just turns into Superman and fights and kills the ape beast. The
natives celebrate his victory but still won't let their captives go
because one of the explorers has lost a piece of diamond belonging to
their idol in quicksand. But Superman has a solution for this too, he just
takes a piece of charcoal, presses it really hard and turns it into a
diamond.
Superman in the jungle - now that sounds like a surefire hit.
Unfortunately, Jungle Devil is anything but good, the story knnows
little to do with its superhero central character in unusual enviroments
apart from a fight with a gorilla, the jungle sets are just too cheap (and
thus limited) to create any sense of wonder, and the narration as a whole
pretty much lacks tension and suspense. Too bad, this could have been
good!
