As part of a program to inspire the youth, cub reporter Jimmy Olsen
(Jack Larson) is made editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet for a day, and
he plans to shine in this job by landing a big scoop: To find evidence
against Legs Lemmy (Herb Vigran) and have him booked for a robbery that
happened 7 years ago the very day before the statute of limitations runs
out. Thing is, he can't come up with any evidence - so he prints a story
about the alleged evidence anyways to force Legs to act ... and acting
Legs does, as he and his two henchmen (Keith Richards, Dick Rich) take
Jimmy and Lois Lane (Noel Neill) hostage in the editor-in-chief's office
just to sit out the time until their crime expires and to make sure that
the alleged evidence doesn't reach the police. In the hostage situation,
both parties make one mistake after the other, but no matter which way the
situation goes, they seem to be locked in a perpetual stalemate ... until
Superman (George Reeves), who has been listening in on the intercom,
gasses the office with a harmless narcotic gas and this way sees that
justice prevails.
An unusual episode that's more of a situation comedy with a great
ensemble cast than a superhero story - to at times hilarious results.
