Reporter Clark Kent (George Reeves) - who is opf course secretly
Superman - and his boss Perry White (John Hamilton) go to Haiti to find
White's sister Kate (Mabel Albertson) and cub reporter Jimmy Olsen (Jack
Larson), who they suspect have fallen into the clutches of a voodoo cult.
And while White has found a guide (Leonard Mudie) to accompany him to
voodoo country in no time, Kent prefers to stay behind and make a few
investigations, both in and out of the Superman costume ... and
ultimately, both White and Kent independently find Kate and Jimmy in a
mine, where she is kept drugged by a voodoo master, Legbo (Henry Corden),
who tries to get the location of a treasure out of her. But when Legbo
loses his patience, he decides to crush White, his guide, his sister and
Jimmy between moving walls ... enter Superman to save his friends and to
unveil Legbo to not be a generic voodoo-priest at all but a greedy white
man in blackface.
Campy ... but in a good way. It's fun to see Superman and friends in a
jungle for the change (even if the jungle sets are only remotely
convincing), and the villain in blackface looks so silly the whole thing
is at least worth a good laugh - and not all the fun is unintentional.
