Young Lilly (Vicrtoria Astuto) has left her old life behind her, but
apparently not before nicking her father's (Daniel Martin Berkey) car, and
now she lives her life between days at the beach, nights sleeping in her
dad's car, the occasional one-night stand, and of course a barrage of
voicemails from her family and ex (Zachary Daniel Booth) that range from
the pleading to the accusatory without never really hitting bull's eye as
to actually picking up on what has made Lilly skip town ... ... and
that's really one of the strengths of this short, that
it doesn't go to great length to try to ratiionalize Lilly's behaviour or
over-analize it but rather leaves things not exactly unexplained but for
the viewers to piece together themselves, totally aware that pretty much
everybody will come to a different answer. And that the film's told pretty
much like a collage without a clear three-act structure, and puts mood
over action helps making this one a rather fascinating cinematic puzzle
about the complexity of human relationships - or lack thereof. |
