After the events of Night Caller,
psychic Clementine (Susan Priver) has become somewhat of a celebrity, so
much so that she's invited to Hurricane Herk's (Jon Budinoff) radio show -
where one of the callers is her boss Jade (Bai Ling), whom Clementine has
to listen to being murdered live on air - and brutally murdered at that,
she's scalped and her face is torn off while still alive - in other words,
even though Clementine has shot him dead, the Scalper still seems to be
out there. With the help of detecives Hayden (Jake Busey) and Lupino (Kate
Patel), and even her dead husband Doug (Brian Burke), Clementine tries to
track down the Scalper, but basically stumbles over too many misleading
clues. Thing is, the Scalper is actually after her, and to remind her of
that, he scalps and almost kills her father (Robert Miano) ... A
very enjoyable blend of police procedural, serial killer thriller and
supernatural horror that by not pressing into any one direction too hard
finds a perfect balance between the three rather different approaches to
storytelling. Plus, even though the film is a very direct sequel to Night
Caller, it manages to stand on its own feet by telling an
interesting and compelling story peopled by fleshed out characters. And a
genre savvy directorial effort relying heavily on suspense but not shying
away from gruesomeness, and a grounded ensemble of course help making this
a very entertaining piece of thriller entertainment.
