It's Laura's (Megan Groves) birthday, and her best friend Kaylee
(Kellyann Summers) persuades her to go out with her, of course after
downing quite a few drinks back at home. At the club they go to, they soon
find who they believe to be nice company as well, James (Martyn Luke) and
Tom (Chris Shipton), who invite them to drink after drink ... until Laura
figures she's had her fill, and she wants to go home, but Kaylee persuades
her to one more drink - which is when James and Tom spike Laura's drink.
Laura breaks down, and Kaylee, just thinking she's had to much to drink,
drags her out of the club and then goes off to find a taxi. However, while
left on her own, Laura crosses paths with James and Tom again, and they're
eager to finish what they've started ... A pretty powerful film
that works quite as well because it doesn't just focus on the message it's
carrying but instead spends much of its running time doing character work,
fleshing out its two leads and their relationship - which works quite as
well as things are kept light and fun, and because both girls deliver
strong performances and have obvious chemistry -, which of course makes
the tragedy that befalls Laura hit all the harder. And a dynamic
directorial effort sure helps to keep things alive throughout, making this
a pretty impressive watch.
