By pure accident, young Madison (Ava Torres) and Ethan (Kyle Rangel)
come into the possession of a giant egg, and before their very eyes, the
egg hatches, to reveal a dinosaur, as wild as it is frightened, but
Madison's singing can calm the dinosaur, soon named Spike, down. That's
all pretty fine - until Spike escapes. The kids soon run into the original
owner of the egg, rather beffuddled elderly Mortimer (Ben Hall), who tells
them about a portal to a jurassic world in the forest next to town, and
with him and the mayor's (Ryan Francis) daughter Wendy (Sophie Proctor),
who's kind of a keeper of the portal, the kids try to find Spike. This
shouldn't be too hard as Spike's growth rate is pretty awesome - but
there's a problem, there's a film team led by Jeff (Brooks Ryan) and
Vanessa (Marila Lombrozo) in town, and they want to make a documentary
about local dinosaur sightings. And when they run across Spike, they
decide to capture him to make the big bucks. Now Mortimer has them hire
him as their guide to take them down the wrong track, but Spike has a mind
of his own and makes the wrong track the right track, and eventually the
documentarians have catured him and plan on a big event to present Spike
to the world in the town's theatre the very next day. Now it's up to
Madison, Ethan, Mortimer and Wendy to free Spike and bring him back to his
world, and they have the perfect plan - that goes totally wrong from
pretty much step one ...
Now this is a film for the whole family, so better not expect
anything too eccentric or too artsy or too whatever, as this film pretty
much has to be cute and wholesome by genre definition, up to its happy
ending. That all said, this doesn't mean Jurassic Pet 3 can't be
genuinely funny at the same time, while nods to King
Kong will appeal to serious movie lovers. And frankly, the special
effects work is pretty good in this one. So in all, not a masterpiece, but
if you know what you're getting into beforehands, you'll probably get more
out of this one than you expect.
