Abby (Stephanie Ward) and Greg (Michael John Gilbert) run a
cryptozoology vlog - with at best limited success though, as despite all
their talk about monsters, they have never shown a real one yet. Enter Dr.
Lovnik (Olga N. Bogdanova) who hires them to hunt down the Graveyard
Shark (Brandon Wheeler), a rather obscure sharkman who's supposed to
haunt a local graveyard. It's not even that Dr. Lovnik necessarily
believes in the Graveyard Shark, she just runs a self help group for
survivors of Graveyard Shark attacks. But of course, when she shows Abby
and Greg the graveyard in question she's promptly eaten by the Graveyard
Shark. When Abby and Greg tell the sheriff (Ryan Santiago) though he very
much blocks all their attempts to find out more and denies the existance
of a Graveyard Shark, attributing the doctor's death to a bear. Wanting to
learn more, Abby meets Captain Seyburn (Berndele March), who claims to
have fathered the Graveyard Shark with a mermaid (Sifundo Nene). And soon
enough, the Captain, Abby, Greg, and members of Dr. Lovnik's self-help
group (Madisen Zabawa, Olivia Walton, Daniel DeFranco) convene at the
graveyard to destroy the Graveyard Shark for good. But the Graveyard Shark
has a terrible secret ... Given all the ridiculous films the
sharksploitation genre has given up I hesitate to say this one takes the
cake, but it's certainly one of the more ludicrous ones - which the film
totally turns to its advantage: Apparently, writer/director Matthew A.
Peters is fully aware of his movie's silliness and at times really pushes
things beyond the limits (like when Madisen Zabawa actually seduces
Graveyard Shark), and while the film follows a traditional horror formula
and has all the suspense, the jump scares and the gore in all the right
places, it's also full of hilarity, that always manages to remain at least
one step away from going fully moronic - and all of that adds up to great
genre fun for sure.
