Jungle Jim number 4:
Upon the request of young Chief Mahala (Rick Vallin), who has been in
Europe to learn the ways of teh white man, Jungle Jim (Johnny Weissmuller)
accompanies him to his tribe that has been taken over by witch doctor
Hakim (John Dehner), to not only help him reclaim leadership of his people
but also to find a white girl, Joan (Anita Lhoest), a blonde who has been
living in the jungle with a tiger since her parents were killed by Hakim -
who now also wants to kill her.
Thrown into this mix is also a treasure hunter, Barton (Buster Crabbe),
who has made it his mission to dive for gold chains the natives use in
their sacrificial rites, and who stays on good terms with Hakim merely due
to the power of his gun.
After much to and fro, Hakim has Jim thrown off a cliff, presumably to
his death (but of course, Jim doesn't die for real but manages to save
himself) while Barton is left by his men when the plot thickens and
actually drowns, and Mahala and Joan are captured by Hakim and are set to
be sacrificed - which means that they are chained up, thrown into the
local lagoon, and are left to drown. But of course, Jim manages to free
them underwater, then Joan calls her friends, the monkeys, to help her
overthrow evil Hakim and reinstall Mahala as the rightful chief ...
Jungle Jim gets to fight another crocodile and Joan's tiger, while
there's also a tiger vs panther fight.
By the way, Jungle Jim's animal sidekicks, the crow and the ugly doggie
are in this one joined by the more customary chimp, who will be the lone
sidekick from the next film - Pygmy
Island - onwards.
Another of these Jungle Jim-films that is silly as hell,
this time not at all helped by an incoherent script, but still, it's campy
fun - if cheap and cheesy jungle films are your thing.
