Lisa (Genoveva Rossi) and her girlfriend Jill (Susan Adriensen) are
attacked by a large, talking chicken, but manage to kill it - only to
learn from the TV that earth is overrun with chickens from outer space,
whose intention it is to eat humans like we eat chicken. While Lisa and
Jill are still trying to make sense of the situation, Jill is killed by a
chicken, but Lisa, always carrying the purple-wigged skull of her
girlfriend with her, tries to get to the bottom of things, and figures her
ex Edwin (Edward X. Young), living somewhere in the backwoods, might be
able to help her. On her cross country trip she has to evade not only
killer chickens but also advances of her priest from back when (Rocco
George), who has always had designs on her. But once at her destination,
Lisa finds her suspicions right on the money, as it seems Edwin has
betrayed humankind for love to a chicken ...
Beloved horror veterans David Naughton and John Dugan both play
politicians who are attacked and killed by chickens live on TV, Lloyd
Kaugman as per usual plays himself.
Now should you have expected a subtle discussion piece about
meat-eating vs. veganism from a movie called Attack of the Killer
Chickens, you're sadly mistaken - but then the title of the movie
should have already been a warning sign, and the film's really about as
blunt as it's monicker, as silly and irreverent, maybe even a bit random -
but also lots and lots of fun. And sure, the film is quite a bit
reminiscent of the classic Attack
of the Killer Tomatoes (even in title), and in its episodic
structure also of Larry Habman's monster hilarity Son
of Blob, and like these films it's no match for Citizen Kane
- but there's enough craziness and inventiveness in this one, along with
schlocky genre mainstays and loveable handpuppet chickens, to make this
one very fine party movie.
