An election for city council is coming up, and Gomez (John Astin),
notoriously bad in picking the right candidate, has long picked his
candidate - until Bass (Eddie Quillan), campaign manager for rival
candidate Hilliard (Allyn Joslyn) stops by, and Gomez immediately changes
sides and promises Hilliard a $20,000 campaign contribution. Now Hilliard
is already familiar with the Addams family [see The
Addams Family Goes to School] and wants to have nothing to do
with them, so Gomez has Lurch (Ted Cassidy) kidnap him so he, his wife
Morticia (Carolyn Jones), and Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan) can lay out
their ideas for the campaign - which are so wild that at the end Hilliard
offers them a campaign contribution, just for them to stay out of
things. Still, the Addams go ahead and help Hilliard anyhow in any
way they can - for his opponent to win in a landslide and specifically
thanking the Addams family for making this possible. And proud to once
again having had his hands in an election, Gomez goes and hangs Hilliard's
campaign poster up in his long gallery of supported yet unsuccessful
candidates for office ... A rather fun episode that plays a bit
like a parody of political satire, all done the Addams Family
way of course. And with plenty of pretty good punchlines and the cast at
their best the results are actually pretty hilarious.
