Ali (Kate Moran) and Matthias (Niels Schneider) have invited a few
strangers over for an orgy. Matthias is of two minds regarding that, on
one hand he's jealous, on the other hand, he wants to see Ali happy, even
if it is with other men. Their transvestite maid Udo (Nicolas Maury) has
chosen the guests as they are: The Slut (Julie Brémond), the Stud (Eric
Cantona), the Teen (Alain-Fabien Delon), and the Star (Fabienne Babe). But
instead of getting right to business, the participants who have intended
to remain as anonymous as possible, find out more and more about each
others dark secrets, like that the Stud sees his big and beautiful penis
as a blessing but more so as a curse, that the teen is actually a runaway,
the Slut has mother issues, and the Star has lost her son ... but the
biggest secret is the one that Ali, Matthias and Udo share: You see,
centuries ago, Matthias went to war, but was killed - but a gypsy brought
him back to life and then stayed with them as their transvestite maid Udo.
Matthias it seems has never gotten over his death though and has been
suicidal ever since - and has had erectile problems which started the
whole orgy-thing to begin with. Instead of just having a fuck-in though,
the six participants of the orgy seem to be pulled into fantasy worlds and
come closer to one another in ever-changing combinations ... until
Matthias is found, his throat slit by his own hand. This puts an end to
the "orgy", but also to the tension between everyone, and even
if Matthias is now dead for real, everyone feels a bit of a relief, even
Ali ... You and the Night is one weird little film:
While officially about an orgy, there is very little actual nudity, sex or
sleaze involved, and while the characters find themselves in weird little
vignettes, they always remain absurd enough to even entertain or keep one
guessing rather than trying to desperately make a point. And while the
film touches quite a bit of tragic ground, it at the same time has its
funny-as-hell moments. That all said, You and the Night is not a
perfect film, at times it pushes a bit too hard to be weird, absurd,
strange to succeed while at other times it's just too sweet (in a fairy
tale-like sort of way) to really provoke much reaction. Still, nice
entertainment.
