Steigler (John Hillerman), a Nazi agent, has defected to the Allied
Forces and agrees to give away all the secrets he knows - which would be a
blow to Nazi agents everywhere, so they decide to have him abducted by
Erica Belgard's (Gretchen Corbett) giant and trained gorilla Gargantua
(Mickey Morton) - shades of Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue
here - a gorilla so powerful he could even take on Wonder Woman (Lynda
Carter).
And wouldn't you know it, soon enough, Gargantua has a chance to fight
Wonder Woman when she rescues Steigler. But Wonder Woman does not defeat
Gargantua by brute force but by compassion ... and soon enough she and the
gorilla become friends.
When Erica Belgard and her men however want to retrieve the gorilla,
her spell over the animal seems to be broken ... and in the end, wouldn't
you know it, all the baddies are thrown into the slammer while Wonder
Woman brings her gorilla friend back to Africa, where he belongs ...
Believe it or not, I have seen lots of giant gorilla films ...
but never have i seen a gorilla suit that was quite as unconvincing as
this one. And the bad gorilla suit paired with a ridiculous story should
of course make a bad show, right ?
Wrong, this episode is quite so hilarious in its pure campiness that
it's simply hard to resist, and it seems that everyone involved was
somehow aware of this. Now I don't want to say it's great TV, it's just
totally entertaining in its badness.
