Algeria, 1881: All that French aristocrat Hector Servadac (Cesare
Danova) and American soldier Michael Dennings (Sean McClory) wanted to do
was duel each other to the death over a woman. Then though a comet flies
by and hurls the two of them into the air ... and when they come to, they
find themselves in a prehistoric world, and have to come to the conclusion
they must have been sucked onto the comet - as they see earth in quite a
distance. Out of necessity, they decide to bury the hatchet and work with
each other, and they soon get to like each other, too - all the while of
course running from dinosaurs, mammoths, Neanderthal men and the like.
Then, during a mammoth attack they get seperated, and while the mammoth
throws Hector into a river that takes him downstream where he is found by
lovely blonde Deena (Joan Staley), who is quick to take him home, nurse
him back to health and become his lover, Michael saves the chieftain from
another tribe from the mammoth, becomes their honorary member, and soon he
has defeated that tribe's strongman (Mike Lane) and takes over his
girlfriend Nateeta (Danielle De Metz). Then though, after the obligatory
earthquake, the strongman and a few others get hold of Deena and drag her
back to the tribe. Michael is quick to realize Deena has to be Hector's
girlfriend (beats me how, must have something to do with Frenchmen and
blondes I suppose), and he mounts and expedition to return her. That works
out alright, but then he receives word that his own tribe is now under
dinosaur attack, so he rushes back to help while Hector creates gunpowder,
then creates a big explosion atop a rock to bury the dinosaurs under the
debris. Of course it works. Then Hector and Michael make peace between
their respective tribes. In the end, Hector and Michael find out that
the comet will be passing the earth again in 7 years time (don't ask me
how they found that out), but since they are both provided with sexy women
in fur bikinis, they don't mind too much. Very loosely based on
Jules Verne's novel Career of the Comet (aka Off on a Comet),
this is actually yet another feature built around the footage from the
then 20+ years old One Million BC,
enriched with a few scenes from Cat-Women of the Moon and even the
Japanese monster movie Rodan -
which means of course there was very little room for originality when
making this one. Which is fine in this case, after all it's bassically a
filly film about men vs dinosaurs based on not all that great footage your
average trash fan has come to love anyways. In other words, this is not a
great movie, and by no means a classic of any sort ... but it's lots of
silly fun!
