Man-sized monster Pigmon warns the Science Patrol that giant monster
chieftain Geronimon is planning to assemble no less than 60 giant monsters
to lay Japan to waste for good. Problem is that the Patrol's master of
arms, Ide (Masanari Nihei) is suffering from self doubts just then because
In their fights with monsters, Science Patrol pretty much invariably
relies on giant robot Ultraman (Bin Furuya) rather than his weapons. And
thus, when the Patrol attacks Geronimon and two other monsters who have
already followed his call, Ide shows little enthusiasm and rather waits
for Ultraman to appear - not knowing of course that his colleague Hayata
(Susumu Kurobe) secretly is Ultraman ... and not wanting to let Ide's
spirit die, Hayata refrains from turning into the metal man. When the
monsters attack Hayata and Ide, Pigmon saves them, giving his own life -
which is pretty much the turning point for Ide, as he now finds his
courage again, kills one of the monsters, and when Ultraman finally does
arrive to take on Geronimon, Ide delivers the final blow that destroys the
monster chieftain. A mediocre episode that is based on a
schmaltzy story but has many fun details, like Pigmon, a monster that
looks like a really ugly participant of a gay pride parade, or the monster
chieftain that's fittingly called Geronimon and wears feathers on its head
- now this is of course not in the least politically correct but still
hilarious. Still, not necessarily one of the better entries into the
series.
