Somewhere in outer space, there is a zone where all giant monsters
giant robot Ultraman (Bin Furuya) has hurled into outer space are floating
around, dubbed the monster graveyard - for apparent reasons. When Science
Patrol finds that out, it's decided to have a commemorial service for the
monsters, most of whom are not evil as such, just big and threatening with
a predilection to smash Tokyo. But while the members of the Patrol are
still in mourning, a new monster arrives on earth, riding piggie-back on a
lunar rocket. But after a bit of destruction, this monster, which wears
its skeleton on the outside, just wanders the countryside, and it soon
becomes clear it did not come to earth on purpose and would much rather
have remained where it was - in the monster graveyard. So Science Patrol
tries to tie it to a lunar rocket to get it back, but since the monster
has no idea what's happening to it, it just smashes the rocket. Then
Ultraman tries to carry it to outer space but runs out of energy too soon.
Finally it's decided to build another lunar rocket looking a bit like
Ultraman, because the creature seems to trust Ultraman, and then using the
real Ultraman to lure it to the rocket ... and this time the plan works
and the monster goes back to where it came from.
The interesting aspect of this episode is that the monster is not
portrayed as evil or anything (something that actually did happen on the
show infrequently) and needs o be helped rather than fought - but of
course that happens in such a goofy way that the story as a whole is funny
rather than self-reflexive.
