A giant monster has come to earth in an UFO to simply destroy
everything in its path (do monsters in this series ever do anything
else?), but doing a bit of research, Science Patrol finds out the monster
has actually once been a human astronaut who was marooned in space but has
survived and mutated on an inhospitable planet, and now he has come back
for revenge. Earth politicians of course now try to hush up the monster's
backstory, so several members of Science Patrol don't want to have any
part in destroying the monster, which would almost be like murdering a
fellow human. but ultimately, the threat of the monster becomes to strong,
and the Patrol's top pilot Hayata (Susumu Kurobe), who's secretly giant robot Ultraman (Bin Furuya),
turns into his other self to fight and destroy the monster. A
rare excursion of kiddie-series Ultraman into the dirty
terrains of politics - and while the story's heart definitely is at the
right place, the delivery is a bit on the heavy-handed side ... but that
said, there's also massive destruction and a robot-versus-monster fight
that should satisfy everyone ...
