On a gouvernment assignement the Range Busters - Crash (Ray Corrigan),
Dusty (John ' Dusty' King) & Alibi (Max Terhune - with his dummy
Elmer) - hit the ghost town of Bottle Neck, & when deciding to spend
the night there, they find out the town is not quite as deserted as a
regular ghost town ought to be - for one, Dan Nordick (Milburn Morante)
lives there with his granddaughter Nancy (Dorothy Short), waiting for
times to get better again & thus searching all of Bottle Neck's mines
for gold to attract prospecters again ... but then there's someone else in
Bottle Neck too, & he tries desperately to scare the Nordicks away,
with cryptic ghostmessages as well as the occasional gunfire. That
someone is of course the Jingler (I.Stanford Jolley), a mysterious
prospector himself who has come to enormous riches over night but noone
knows why ... & just the man the Range Busters are after - problem is,
they haven't got a thing on the Jingler, even if they are convinced that
he's up to no good. Eventually, Alibi finds a soft spot for old man
Nordick & hides some gold in his mine so that Nordick can find it
& have a modest feeling of success ... but this is immediately blown
out of proportion when the media gets wind of it, & within a week the
ghost town of Bottle neck is booming again. But then the Jingler gets wind
of Alibi's little trick & spills the beans to B ottle Neck's newly
arrived gold diggers ... who of course waste no time & form a lynch
mob, bgiving the Range Busters chase ... but the Busters actually know how
to use this to their advantage, tricking the gold diggers to get out of
town, then get back into town to learn what the Jingler is up to &
what is his game .... & his game is twofold, as he on one hand uses
the town as a hide-out for the gold he has stolen from the national mint,
on the other hand he has found a secret walled up goldmine he plans to
exploit, & the last thing he needs to do this is gold digges ... Being
caught pretty much redhanded, The Jingler tries to bribe the Range Busters
... until they show him their badges ... Shot on Crash Corrigan's own
(movie-)ranch. This is a likeable Range Busters series
Western that doesn't concentrate som much on horseback riding but more on
creating atmosphere, even throwing in a few horror elements along the way.
& I.Stanford Jolley makes a good, campy villain.
