Torrnete (Santiago Segura) is a rundown, sleazy, alcoholic cop, who oprefers to look the other way when a crime is committed, just to keep out of trouble. & to make a litle extra money, he sends his father (Tony LeBlanc) out onto the streets ot beg for money. Still, Torrente has one friend, Rafi (Javier Cámara), a short sighted action film fan who is fascinated by Torrente because he carries a gun. Torrente accepts him as his sidekick mainly because he has the hots for Rafi's nymphomaniac cousin Amparito (Neus Asensi).

One day though, Torrente is thrown out of a Chinese restaurant, & now plans to use every dirty trick in the book to get back at them ... even if he has to use Rafi to do so.

Soon, Torrente finds the first clue, a bag of drugs that his father has found in one of the restaurand's springrolls (that gave dad a serious heartattack when mistaking it for salt), & before long, he & Rafi stake out the place & see the restaurant's manager, the Frenchman (Manuel Manquina) kill one of his waiters (Anhi Tran) in a dispute over drugs, & they learn about a big drug drop the Frenchman, drug kingpin  Mendoza (Espartaco Santoni) & gangster boss Farelli plan ... but fail to learn when or where.

So Rafi & Torrente do what they think best (& it isn't): gather a few of Rafi's friends (Julio Sanjuán, Jaime Balatán, Darío Paso), a mix of computer nerds, wannabe martial artists & action movie fans, & try to figure out with their help details about the drop ... which ends only with one of them being killed when trying ot make his escape ...

... but then there's Lio-Chi (Rosa Zhidán), the girlfriend of the waiter whom the Frenchman has klled, & she's more than happy to lead Torrente & his gang to the location of the drop ...

Meanwhile though, the gansters have killed Torrente's father (not that he would care particularly much) & taken Amparito hostage (not that she would care particularly much, she spends her tiem freely offering the gangsters blowjobs), & somehow it's also found out that Torrente is not really a cop at all anymore but was fired several years ago ... that doesn't seem to stop him trying to get the gangsters ... or so it seems, as while all the others shoot it out between themselves (Rafi & friend versus the gangsters and Mendoza's men versus Farelli's men), he somehow manages to get the money involved & bring it to safety .... it  is only htne that his consicience kicks in for a moment or two, & he heads back trying to at least save Rafi (all of Rafi's friends are dead by now anyhow) - & does so being riddled by bullets thought for Rafi. But hiis gives Rafi the chance to go after Mendoza, the last of the gangsters still alive ... but Mendoza has taken Amparito hostage, & threatens to shoot her should Rafi interfere in his plans - & is ultimately shot by Lio-Chi, the Chinese girl everyone has forgotten about.

The police arrives only when everything is over, & the money seems to be missing ... thanks to Torrente, who isn't really dead but has used the ambulance that's supposed to bring him to the morgue to get him away from the crimescene & to a better future ...

Not a completely successful comedy, too often does the film go for the cheap & easy joke instead ofsophistication, but the character Torrente himself, & the way Santiago Segura portrays him, is just so ruthless, mean, sleazy & overall politically incorrect you just can't help but liking him (even if you know better), & in the process care about what happens to him in the film.
